Casa de Cultura Tainã

Casa Taina is a Quilombola territory and cultural center founded in 1989 in the city of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Quilombolas are descendants of the members of the African diaspora who started free territories during the colonial period in Brazil. They territories are still alive and thriving. The "Community Studio" project at Casa Taina hosts musicians from the local community, but also visiting partners from a broader network of Quilombola territories in Brazil, as well as members of the African diaspora in Latin America.

The Community Studio is open for the community to rehearse, teach classes, and record their own compositions. As part of a broader movement for digital sovereignty, Casa Taina embraces the usage of Free and Open Source technologies to preserve the cultural expressions of the Black community. As founding members of the Digital Culture movement in Brazil, we are connected with various social and cultural movements in the country. Our studio is supported by six active members and used for teaching music to young kids as well as hosting +100 local musicians.
